I don't know exactly how I got into big band music as a kid. My folks never really enjoyed it. Maybe it was because of old Looney Tunes, which featured the genre prominently. Whatever the reason I grew a strong liking for the big band sound and it stuck with me for years. When swing dancing became all the rage back in the mid to late 90s I was excited by the fact that I could actually purchase the music at a local store rather than to search obscure retailers trying to locate a simple vinyl (sorry WIGSF). Still that fad went the way of the Pogo Ball and it's rare someone will even admit they enjoyed the music.
All that rambling aside here's some Glenn Miller for you.

No need to apologise. Nothing there offended me.
As for some good ol' swing. I love it all. One band to look out for is the Raymond Scott Quintette. Carl Stalling, the Looney Tunes musical director was a big fan and put much of his work into the cartoons.
Did you ever take swing lessons? They offered them at my fav bar back in the day and we went....however it just turned into an excuse to drink on Monday while everyone else was in the lesson.
Awesome choice! Yes, even tattoo'd metal freaks can enjoy some old school.
My parents grew up during the transition of big band vs. rock n roll. As a result, I grew up listening to a mix of big band and Elvis from my folks, and a mix of Blondie-style pop and Judas Priest-style heavy metal from my sister.
And people wonder why I'm so weird.
I was happy as a clam when Cherry Poppin Daddies set off the swing revival (and gave Brian Setzer a reason to continue living). Jen and I would go to the Fenix Underground for their free Monday night swing lessons. I used to convince my friends to go by telling them about the girl-to-guy ratio at the swing nights, which was about 3:1.
Ah, lordy, I do miss the old days.
That style of music just puts me in a great mood. I love it.
You and Miss Ash can swing dance this weekend (or just swing).
This is the music of my youth. My dad is 77 years old--so let's just say my parents didn't exactly listen to the same music my friends' parents listened to!
I used to love Glen Miller when I was about 12 years old. No idea why I stopeed listening to him though!
